US Republican House Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene engaged in a heated exchange with British journalist Martha Kelner during a press conference on Wednesday, telling her to “go back” to the UK after being questioned about the Signalgate controversy, Politico reported.
The Heated Exchange
The confrontation occurred when Sky News reporter Martha Kelner pressed Greene on the security risks of Trump administration officials using the Signal messaging app to discuss a military strike. The controversy erupted after journalist Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic was mistakenly added to a Signal group chat that included key officials like:
- Vice President JD Vance
- Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth
- National Security Adviser Mike Waltz
Goldberg later exposed the security lapse, leading to Democratic criticism and calls for resignations, Politico reported.
When Kelner asked Greene about the potential risks posed by the leaked Signal chat, the Georgia congresswoman abruptly interrupted:
“Wait, what country are you from?”
Upon hearing Kelner was British, Greene lashed out:
“We don’t give a crap about your opinion and your reporting. Why don’t you go back to your country where you have a major migrant problem?”
Greene Dodges Questions, Attacks UK Policies
Kelner attempted to continue her questioning, but Greene evaded the topic, instead attacking UK immigration policies.
“Do you care about people from your country? What about all the women that are raped by migrants?” Greene shot back.
When an American journalist asked her to answer Kelner’s question, Greene again refused, Politico reported.
Greene’s History of Media Clashes
A staunch Trump ally and MAGA figure, Greene has frequently clashed with journalists. Last year, she had a heated exchange with former BBC journalist Emily Maitlis, when questioned about promoting an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory claiming that a California wildfire was started by a space laser.
