Delhi Government Cracks Down On Private Schools Over Forced Purchases, Announces Budget 2025-26

The Delhi government has issued strict orders preventing private schools from forcing students to buy books, uniforms, and other educational materials from specific vendors. This decision comes after multiple complaints from parents regarding the financial burden imposed by such practices.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) stated:
“It has been observed through newspapers and complaints that many private unaided schools in Delhi are compelling students to buy educational materials such as books, guides, uniforms, and bags from specific vendors. This restricts students’ freedom and puts financial pressure on families.”

The government has instructed schools to allow parents to purchase educational supplies from any vendor of their choice to prevent commercial exploitation. Schools failing to comply could face action under the Ban on Commercialization of Education (BNS) Act and Delhi School Education Act & Rules (DSEA&R), 1973.

To report violations, parents can contact the helpline (9818154069) or email ddeac1@gmail.com.
