Aakash Chopra Analyzes Shubman Gill’s Performance In IPL 2025 Match Against PBKS

New Delhi [India]: Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has shared his insights on Shubman Gill’s innings in the fifth match of IPL 2025, where Gujarat Titans (GT) faced Punjab Kings (PBKS). Speaking on Jio Hotstar, Chopra highlighted the high expectations from Gill, especially when playing in Ahmedabad.

Gill’s Aggression in the Powerplay

Chopra pointed out how Gill dominated early on, particularly taking on Azmatullah Omarzai and Marco Jansen.

“With Shubman, you almost expect him to perform well nine out of ten times, especially in Ahmedabad. There was one over where he completely took down Azmatullah Omarzai and then Marco Jansen,” Chopra said on Match Center Live on Jio Hotstar.

Gill’s Dismissal & Orange Cap Contention

Chopra defended Gill’s aggressive approach, attributing his dismissal to the high-risk nature of chasing a 240+ target.

“As for his dismissal to Glenn Maxwell, you can’t be too critical. When chasing 240+, there’s only one way to play—you keep going, and you don’t stop. High-risk cricket comes with consequences. But while he was at the crease, he looked very good. This is a promising sign for GT. Last season was a middling one for him, but this year, I expect him to be a strong contender for the Orange Cap.”

Match Recap: PBKS Edge GT in High-Scoring Thriller

Despite Gill’s promising start, GT fell short by 11 runs.

  • Gill’s knock: 33 runs off 14 balls (3 sixes, 2 fours)
  • GT’s strong start: 61-run opening stand between Sai Sudharsan & Gill
  • Maxwell’s breakthrough: Dismissed Gill, shifting momentum in PBKS’s favor
  • PBKS heroics:
    • Shreyas Iyer led PBKS to victory with 97 off 42 balls*
    • Shashank Singh smashed 44 off 16 balls, propelling PBKS to 243/5
    • GT, despite a valiant effort, managed 232/5

With Shubman Gill looking in solid rhythm, GT will be hoping for bigger contributions from their captain as they aim to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
