In her message to Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin, President Murmu emphasized the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

“On behalf of the government, the people of India, and on my own behalf, I extend warm greetings and felicitations to Your Excellency and to the friendly people of Bangladesh on the occasion of your National Day,” Murmu stated.

She highlighted India-Bangladesh cooperation in multiple sectors, including trade, connectivity, development partnership, power and energy, education, and cultural exchanges. PM Modi’s Message to Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also sent his greetings to Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, emphasizing the shared history and sacrifices that define India-Bangladesh relations.

“This day stands as a testament to our shared history and sacrifices, which have laid the foundation of our bilateral partnership. The spirit of the Liberation War of Bangladesh continues to remain a guiding light for our relationship,” Modi said.

Commemorating Bangladesh’s National Day

Bangladesh National Day, observed on March 26, marks the country’s declaration of independence from Pakistan in 1971. India played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s liberation and was among the first countries to recognize its sovereignty.

Both nations also celebrate December 6 as Maitri Diwas, marking India’s formal recognition of Bangladesh in 1971. In March 2021, PM Modi officially designated this day as Bangladesh-India Friendship Day (Moitree Dibosh).
