Delhi: AAP To Hire Terminated Bus Marshals As Civil Defence Volunteers To Fight Pollution

New Delhi [India]: The AAP Government on Thursday announced that the bus marshals, who were terminated from their services last year, will be hired as the civil defence volunteers for four months to help fight the pollution crisis in the national capital.

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, during a press conference, made the announcement, stating , the central government “gave in” and agreed because of the ‘struggle’ of bus marshal and Aam Aadmi Party leaders.

“Today their (bus marshal) struggle and the work of Arvind Kejriwal has yielded results. Today the central government has given in and agreed that these bus marshals can be deputed and paid for thier works by the government.”

“We will use them (Civil defence volunteers) to fight the pollution and to ensure that all the enforcement activities like stopping the burning of waste in open, and stopping construction activity, are implemented. For this work, the bus marshals who were removed from their jobs will be hired as civil defence volunteers for a period of 4 months,” Saurabh Bhardwaj added.

He also assured the Bus marshals that the government will try to reinstate them while they work as civil defence volunteers. He further congratulated them.

“During this time we will also try to reinstate them as bus marshals. All the bus marshals that struggled for months, who many times, with us, were detained by police, I want to congratulate them.” Saurabh Bhardwaj said.

Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the bus marshals were arrested “again and again”.

“These bus marshals were arrested again and gain, police pushed them on streets, kicked them, slapped them. False cases were registered against them. But they did not lose in or gave in,” Bhardwaj said.

Bus marshals and AAP had been reluctantly protesting outside LG’s residence, demanding their reinstatement. They were terminated from their services in October of last year.
