Himanta Biswa Sarma Criticizes Mamata Banerjee’s “Mrityu Kumbh” Remark, Calls Congress “Anti-Sanatan”

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her “Mrityu Kumbh” remark regarding the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. He also took a sharp dig at the Congress party, calling it an “anti-Sanatan” organization.

Sarma’s Response to Mamata Banerjee

After taking a holy dip at Triveni Sangam, Sarma expressed his disapproval of Mamata Banerjee’s remarks and invited her to visit the event herself.

“She should not have spoken like this. I would request her to come here and take a holy dip for the development of the people of West Bengal,” Sarma told ANI.

CM Banerjee had earlier referred to the event as “Mrityu Kumbh”, saying, “I respect Mahakumbh, I respect the holy Ganga Maa. But there is no planning. How many people have been recovered?”

Criticism of Congress

Sarma also accused the Congress party of being against Sanatan Dharma, predicting its decline in Indian politics.

“Congress party is anti-Sanatan. I think the Congress party is not going to be there for a long time,” he said.

Sanatan Culture and Mahakumbh’s Global Impact

He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in reviving India’s cultural and religious traditions on a global stage.

“Once again, under the leadership of PM Modi, the Sanatan culture has come up in front of the world. This Mahakumbh is proof that Sanatan is the past, present, and future of the world,” Sarma stated.

CM Yogi Adityanath on Economic Growth and Poverty Alleviation

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath addressed the UP Legislative Assembly during the ongoing Budget session, highlighting the government’s efforts to alleviate poverty.

“We should be proud that under the leadership of PM Modi, in 10 years, we have been able to bring 25 crore people above the poverty line. In the last eight years, our government has brought more than six crore people out of poverty,” CM Yogi said.

He also emphasized the economic benefits of the Mahakumbh, stating that the event is expected to contribute over ₹3 lakh crore to Uttar Pradesh’s economy.

“The country and the world are seeing the potential of Uttar Pradesh today, which can be seen associated with the organization of Mahakumbh,” he added.
