CPI(M) Slams BJP Over President’s Rule In Manipur, Calls It A ‘Failure Of Double-Engine Govt’

New Delhi [India]: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, calling it a reflection of the “bankruptcy of the double-engine government.”

In a statement published on the party’s official website, the Polit Bureau said, “The imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur underlines the utter bankruptcy of the BJP double-engine government under whose rule the state has been in violent turmoil for two years.”

CPI(M) Alleges Political Motives Behind President’s Rule

The party argued that the move was not aimed at addressing the concerns of the people but was a strategic decision to buy time and settle internal conflicts within the ruling coalition.

According to the CPI(M), the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh was not voluntary but was triggered by legal scrutiny into his alleged sectarian actions. “The Chief Minister, the main culprit, who was backed all along by the BJP-RSS, was forced to resign because his partisan role was being examined by a court where evidence was presented of his sectarian partisan role, which left him with no choice but to quit,” the statement read.

CPI(M) Accuses Centre of Negligence

The party also criticized the central leadership for failing to take decisive action during the prolonged crisis in Manipur, which has been grappling with violence and instability for the past two years.

“In all these developments, the central leadership of the ruling party and the central government refused to take the required action to alleviate the deep suffering inflicted on the people of Manipur, symbolized by the Prime Minister’s callous refusal to even visit the troubled state,” the CPI(M) stated. It accused the BJP government of prioritizing political interests over the well-being of Manipur’s people.

President’s Rule No Permanent Solution, Says CPI(M)

While rejecting the notion that President’s Rule is a lasting solution, the CPI(M) stressed that the central government must now take full responsibility for resolving the crisis.

“President’s Rule is no solution. However, now the central government cannot escape its responsibility. It must immediately initiate measures to heal the deep divisions through negotiations with representatives of different communities, taking all political parties into confidence to arrive at just solutions to bring normalcy, peace, and harmony while protecting the democratic rights of the people of the state, including the holding of elections within a time framework,” the statement concluded.

The Centre imposed President’s Rule in Manipur on Thursday, just four days after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh submitted his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. The move has intensified political tensions, with opposition parties blaming the BJP-led government for failing to restore stability in the conflict-ridden state.
