New Delhi [India], February 8: As trends indicate a significant lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari spoke confidently about the party’s prospects but urged patience until the final results are confirmed.
“We are way ahead in the trends, but we will wait for the results. I believe our final tally will be even better than this,” Tiwari said, emphasizing that the trends clearly show that every section of Delhi has turned away from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He attributed this shift in support to AAP’s “inaction” and “corruption,” which he believes led to the party losing the trust of the people.
Earlier in the day, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva echoed similar sentiments, stating that the people of Delhi had opted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s model of governance and rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership. According to Sachdeva, the election was a battle between “good governance” under PM Modi and “bad governance” under AAP.
“The situation in Delhi—contaminated water, broken roads, poor sanitation, pollution in Yamuna—reflects the failure of Kejriwal’s governance, which the people have rejected,” Sachdeva said. He further praised PM Modi’s governance model, calling it one that is respected nationwide, while accusing Kejriwal and his leadership of “corruption.”
Tiwari and Sachdeva also targeted AAP’s prominent leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, claiming that they would lose in the elections due to their betrayal of the public’s trust. “These leaders are the faces of corruption, and the people will not forgive them,” said Sachdeva.
As per the Election Commission’s early trends, the BJP has crossed the majority mark of 36 seats needed to form the government in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. Polling for the election was held on February 5, with a voter turnout recorded at 60.54%.
