New Delhi [India], January 24: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following the recent firing incident in Mokama involving former MLA Anant Singh. Yadav accused the Chief Minister of turning a blind eye to rising crime and corruption in the state, labeling both as systemic issues under the current government.
“The Chief Minister has become complacent. Crime has turned into a habit and corruption into decorum. Under this government, such soul-crushing realities have become the norm. The CM remains silent over this incident,” Yadav said.
He also expressed concern that no FIR had been filed despite the fact that both parties involved in the shooting had openly admitted to opening fire. “No FIR has been registered yet, even though criminals from both sides have confessed to the shooting. The government is shielding them, and even the Union Minister meets with the accused. How can the police take any action against them?” Yadav questioned.
Yadav further accused the state government of protecting the criminals and predicted that the case would be buried soon. “Nothing will come of this. The government will try to make the issue disappear, and the police are powerless to act. The people in power will protect the criminals, and soon this matter will fade away.”
The Mokama firing incident occurred on January 23 when Anant Singh, a former MLA, alleged that two men, Sonu and Monu, opened fire on his group. Singh claimed that one of his associates was injured in the neck during the attack. Singh identified the alleged assailants as “kidnappers and thieves” and accused them of having links with the local police, which he claimed were in cahoots with the criminals.
Singh further stated that despite the severity of the incident, the police had failed to take any action, blaming corruption within the system. “If the police had been acting properly, I wouldn’t be worried. But they take money and do nothing,” he added. Singh demanded an inquiry into the matter and stated that he would continue to stand with the people, regardless of any personal risks.
Meanwhile, a special police team has visited the residences of Sonu and Monu, the alleged perpetrators, as part of their investigation. The incident, which took place in Mokama under the Pachmala Police Station jurisdiction, is believed to have been a clash between two local gangs. Family members of the accused have called the shooting a targeted attack and urged authorities to carry out a thorough investigation.
