Delhi CM Writes To Election Officer Accusing Delhi Police Of Intimidating AAP workers, Seeks Transfer

New Delhi [India], January 23: Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi has written a letter to the Election Officer of Delhi, accusing the Delhi Police of attempting to close the complaint filed by AAP regarding intimidation by BJP workers on January 21 and 22. She also called for the transfer of the police officials allegedly involved in the misconduct.

In her letter, CM Atishi stated that AAP workers are being pressured to sign false statements asserting that no violence or intimidation had occurred. She outlined that she had previously lodged a complaint about the intimidation of AAP volunteers by BJP workers, but instead of investigating the matter, the police seemed to be trying to force the case to be closed.

“I received a notice under section 94 BNSS from SHO Govindpuri regarding the complaint made on 21.01.2025. However, I have learned that our volunteers, who were intimidated by BJP workers, are now being contacted by the police under the pretext of taking statements,” the letter said.

Atishi alleged that the SHO, Dharamveer, along with Inspector Sushil Sharma and Constable Jai Bhagwan, had been pressuring AAP volunteers to sign false statements. These volunteers—Vijeta, Rekha Bassi, and Deepa Deol—were reportedly dictated statements which falsely claimed that no violence or intimidation had taken place.

“Our volunteers have expressed a willingness to give statements in the presence of their advocate, but the police appear to be rushing to close the case by forcing our volunteers to sign incomplete and false statements,” the letter added. The volunteers were reportedly subjected to further pressure, with their objections being disregarded when their statements were torn up by the police officers.

Atishi raised concerns about the potential collusion between the local SHO and investigating officers. As a result, she called for the immediate transfer of SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan from their current posts.

In a separate letter earlier this week, Atishi had requested the deployment of paramilitary forces in Kalkaji to ensure the safety of voters and party workers ahead of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections on February 5, with the vote counting set for February 8.
