Washington [US], January 22: Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling is reportedly in negotiations to star in an upcoming Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy, adding excitement to the iconic franchise. The project, which has been in development since 2022, promises to take the Star Wars universe in a fresh direction and could become the next major production under Lucasfilm, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Levy, renowned for his work on Deadpool and The Adam Project, has been working on the film for over two years, with Jonathan Tropper, a frequent collaborator of Levy’s, writing the script. Levy will also serve as producer through his 21 Laps banner alongside Kathleen Kennedy from Lucasfilm.
While details about the film remain under wraps, sources confirm that it will be a standalone feature, separate from the core Skywalker Saga. The plot and timeline are still a mystery, leading fans to speculate whether the movie will explore Jedi, Sith, or other aspects of the vast Star Wars galaxy. The film is expected to introduce new characters and storylines, expanding the universe beyond the Skywalker family.
Gosling’s involvement in the project is a recent development, and sources suggest that his interest has helped move the film into production. Originally, Levy had been in talks to direct a Paramount movie centered around a boy band, which would have reunited him with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. However, Gosling’s unexpected involvement has fast-tracked the Star Wars project, with filming potentially starting as soon as this fall.
If the deal goes through, this Star Wars movie will be the next film in the franchise to begin production, following the success of The Mandalorian, which is set to release in 2026.
In addition to his potential Star Wars role, Gosling is also set to star in Project Hail Mary, another space-themed film directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
