PM Modi Celebrates 10 Years Of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” Movement

New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked the 10th anniversary of the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child) movement, celebrating its transformative impact on society. He expressed gratitude for the initiative, which has evolved into a people-powered movement with widespread participation from people across various sectors of society.

“Today we mark 10 years of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao movement. Over the past decade, it has become a transformative, people-powered initiative and has drawn participation from people across all walks of life,” PM Modi posted on X. He highlighted the movement’s role in overcoming gender barriers, biases, and in ensuring that every girl has access to education and opportunities.

PM Modi praised the contributions made by community service organizations and individuals in addressing historically low child sex ratios and promoting gender equality. “Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the people and various community service organisations, #BetiBachaoBetiPadhao has achieved remarkable milestones. Districts with historically low child sex ratios have reported significant improvements, and awareness campaigns have instilled a deeper sense of the importance of gender equality,” he said.

Emphasizing the need to continue this movement, the Prime Minister called for a society where girls can thrive without discrimination, and their rights to education are protected. “I compliment all stakeholders who have made this movement vibrant at the grassroots level. Let us continue to protect the rights of our daughters, ensure their education, and create a society where they can thrive without any discrimination,” he added.

Launched on January 22, 2015, by PM Modi in Panipat, Haryana, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme has become one of the most impactful social initiatives in India. The scheme addresses critical issues such as the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR), gender-biased sex-selective elimination, and works to improve the survival, protection, and education of the girl child.

The initiative has made significant strides in improving the lives of girls in India, improving the Sex Ratio at Birth, increasing access to education, expanding healthcare, and supporting women’s economic empowerment. The focus for the next decade will be on making long-term changes through inclusive policies, better implementation, and continued community engagement, ensuring that gender equality and empowerment progress further.
