BJP Criticizes Kejriwal Over Film on Arrest, Questions Credibility of Private Screenings

BJP spokesperson labels AAP’s film on Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest a “desperate measure,” insists innocence must be proven in court

New Delhi, January 19: Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal for attempting to “create confusion” with a film about his arrest. Kapoor emphasized that proving innocence requires legal proceedings, not private screenings.

In a press statement on Saturday, Kapoor accused the former Delhi Chief Minister of employing desperate tactics as he faces potential electoral setbacks.

“Arvind Kejriwal has lost his political balance and has been making absurd statements daily. Now, he has tried to create new confusion by producing a short film about his arrest and arranging for its screening,” said Kapoor.

The Film Controversy

Kejriwal announced a private screening of a film titled “Unbreakable”, which he claimed would expose the reasons behind his arrest. According to AAP, the documentary focuses on the legal challenges faced by its leaders, including time spent in jail.

Kapoor dismissed Kejriwal’s assertions as “laughable,” stating, “Merely showing a self-produced film will not establish his innocence; that must happen in a court of law.”

The BJP leader also pointed out legal violations, saying, “Kejriwal should remember that before conducting a private screening, he must seek the court’s permission. The court has already prohibited him from making public statements regarding his case.”

AAP’s Response

AAP alleged that the BJP is attempting to block the film’s release. Kejriwal shared the film’s trailer on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “This is the trailer of the film Unbreakable made on the Aam Aadmi Party. Watch the trailer. You will understand why the BJP wants to stop this film.”

The Delhi Police stated that no permission was granted for the film’s screening, as political parties must apply through the District Election Officer’s (DEO) single-window system for events.

Kejriwal countered the claim, asserting that the screening was a private event and not an election-related activity.
