Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 17: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who was attacked during a burglary at his Bandra residence, is currently recovering in the ICU.
According to the latest update from a doctor at Lilavati Hospital, the medical team will soon discuss with Saif’s family about when to transfer him from the ICU to a regular ward.
The incident occurred early on Thursday morning around 2:30 am when an intruder confronted Saif’s maid at his 11th-floor Bandra flat. Saif intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation, but it escalated into a violent altercation, leading to the actor suffering several stab wounds.
He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery. The actor sustained a significant injury to his thoracic spinal cord, caused by a knife that lodged in his spine. The surgical team successfully removed the 2.5-inch-long knife and repaired a tear in his spinal fluid.
Later on Thursday, Saif’s wife Kareena Kapoor Khan issued a statement asking fans and the media to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
“It has been an incredibly challenging day for our family, and we are still trying to process what has happened. As we navigate through this, I respectfully request that the media and paparazzi refrain from unnecessary speculation and intrusive coverage,” Kareena wrote.
She also addressed the intense media scrutiny, noting, “While we are grateful for the concern and support, the constant attention is overwhelming and poses a safety risk. We kindly ask for the space to heal and cope as a family. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this sensitive period.”
