New Delhi [India], January 15: A high-powered enquiry committee in India has submitted its report, urging swift legal action against an individual with known criminal associations who poses a security threat to both India and the US.
The committee was formed in November 2023 after US authorities alerted India about organized criminal groups, terrorist organizations, and drug traffickers jeopardizing the security interests of both countries.
In its report, the committee recommended that legal proceedings be expedited to address these security concerns effectively. Beyond legal action, the committee also proposed several systemic improvements, including enhancing existing procedures, strengthening India’s response mechanisms, and ensuring better coordination to tackle similar threats in the future.
The committee’s investigation was thorough, with the panel conducting independent inquiries and following leads provided by the US. It received full cooperation from US authorities and engaged in joint visits. Additionally, the committee interrogated various officials and examined relevant documents.
A statement from the Home Ministry said, “After a detailed enquiry, the committee has recommended legal action against an individual with criminal ties identified during the investigation. The committee has emphasized the need for the legal process to be concluded quickly.”
The report further recommended strengthening India’s systems and response capabilities to ensure effective coordination and control in managing future security threats.
