Arvind Kejriwal To File Nomination For Delhi Assembly Polls

New Delhi [India]: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal announced that he will file his nomination today for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5.

In a post on X, Kejriwal shared, “Today I am going to file my nomination. Many of my mothers and sisters from all over Delhi will accompany me to bless me. Before filing my nomination, I will go to Valmiki Temple and Hanuman Temple to seek the Lord’s blessings.”

Kejriwal is contesting from the New Delhi constituency, where he faces Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dixit as his main opponents.

The Delhi assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8.

As the election date approaches, political rivalries have intensified. On Tuesday, Kejriwal accused the BJP and Congress of having a covert “jugalbandi” (alliance), claiming the election would expose their longstanding collaboration.

In response, BJP leader Malviya retorted on X, saying, “Worry about the country later, save your New Delhi seat for now.”

Kejriwal doubled down, stating in another post, “I said just one line about Rahul Gandhi, and the reply is coming from the BJP. Look how much trouble the BJP is facing. Perhaps this Delhi election will expose the ‘Jugalbandi’ going on behind the scenes between Congress and BJP for years.”

The ruling AAP has already announced its candidates for all 70 assembly constituencies, while the BJP has declared candidates for 59 seats so far.

The last date for filing nominations is January 17, followed by scrutiny of nominations on January 18. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until January 20.

In recent history, AAP has enjoyed significant success in Delhi’s political landscape. The party won 62 of 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections, while the BJP secured just eight seats. Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 years before 2013, has faced consistent setbacks, failing to win a single seat in the last two assembly elections.
