Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 14: As the highly anticipated crime drama series Chidiya Udd prepares for its release on Amazon MX Player on January 15, the cast, including Jackie Shroff, Bhoomika Meena, and Sikandar Kher, shared their experiences from the sets in a recent interview with ANI. They opened up about their journeys leading to the show’s launch and their time working together.
Based on Aabid Surti’s critically acclaimed novel Cages, Chidiya Udd explores the gritty underworld of Mumbai, filled with crime, power struggles, and survival. Directed by Ravi Jadhav, the series stars Bhoomika Meena, Sikandar Kher, Madhur Mittal, Mayur More, and Mita Vashisht.
When asked about his role in creating a comfortable space for newcomers on set, Jackie Shroff shared a heartfelt memory from his early career. Recalling his time working with legendary actor Dev Anand, Jackie spoke of a moment when he was struggling with an action sequence. “I was struggling with an action scene, and the action director was scolding me. At that moment, Dev Sahab told the director, ‘Don’t scold him, he’s a new guy… he’ll learn.’ That day, I understood what it means to be treated with kindness as a newcomer. Now, as I’m in his position, I feel it’s my responsibility to pass on what I’ve learned,” Jackie shared.
Reflecting on his approach to acting, Jackie added, “I never went to acting school. My real teachers were Dev Sahab and Subhash Ji (Subhash Ghai). On set, I adapt to whatever the situation demands. I trust my technicians and their expertise.”
Sikandar Kher, who portrays Jackie Shroff’s son in Chidiya Udd, expressed his deep admiration for his co-star. “It’s an honor and a privilege to have Jaggu Da play my dad. He has known me since I was a child,” Sikandar said, emphasizing the strong personal connection they share.
Bhoomika Meena, who plays the lead role of Seher, shared her journey into the series. She recalled her audition experience and expressed surprise and excitement when she found out she would be working with such esteemed actors. “I didn’t know who my co-actors would be initially, but when I found out, it was truly special. It’s been a wonderful experience working with them,” Bhoomika said.
She also shared a memorable story from her time with Sikandar Kher on set. “I had once done a cameo in a project of Sikandar Sir’s, and I knew he had auditioned for Chidiya Udd. When I met him on set, I asked about his other projects, and he casually mentioned, ‘I heard you auditioned for Chidiya Udd too.’ It was a pleasant surprise to meet him again on this project,” she recalled with a smile.
The series explores the harsh realities of Mumbai’s underworld, with Seher (played by Bhoomika) trying to escape the grip of the criminal world. The gripping narrative promises to explore survival, power, and resilience.
Jackie Shroff, who plays Qadir Khan in the series, described his role as both challenging and rewarding. “Chidiya Udd is filled with twists and turns. Every character is fighting their own battle, and portraying Qadir has been a tough but fulfilling experience. The audience will love the complexity of the character,” he said.
Bhoomika Meena, speaking about her role as Seher, said, “Seher is a fighter who refuses to give up, no matter how harsh the world around her becomes. Portraying her has been a remarkable journey. Chidiya Udd is a powerful story of survival, and I hope the audience resonates with Seher’s spirit and her choices.”
Chidiya Udd will be available for free on Amazon MX Player starting January 15.
