New Delhi [India]: In a sharp response to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent statements regarding the Shakur Basti slum, BJP’s Moti Nagar Assembly candidate Harish Khurana accused the AAP leader and his team of spreading misinformation.
Khurana’s remarks came after Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena dismissed Kejriwal’s allegations, asserting that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has neither altered the land use of Shakur Basti nor issued any eviction or demolition notices.
BJP’s Harish Khurana’s Statement
“Arvind Kejriwal and his entire team are habitual liars. Their tendency to spread rumors is now exposed. Kejriwal, sensing his imminent defeat in the Delhi elections, is resorting to lies to mislead the people. The LG has made it clear that no changes have been made to Shakur Basti’s land use, and no eviction notices have been issued. Kejriwal should apologize to the public for his false claims,” Khurana told media.
Khurana further claimed that the people of Delhi are ready to oust the AAP government and look forward to the establishment of a “double-engine government.”
LG VK Saxena’s Rebuttal
On Sunday, LG VK Saxena criticized Kejriwal, calling his claims about Shakur Basti “a complete lie.” Saxena clarified that the DDA meeting on December 27, which Kejriwal referred to in his allegations, involved no changes to Shakur Basti’s land use.
“Kejriwal’s statement near the slums of Shakur Basti is entirely false. The DDA has neither altered the land use of Shakur Basti nor issued any demolition or eviction notice. He is deliberately spreading falsehoods to mislead the public,” said Saxena.
The LG also pointed out that AAP MLAs were present at the DDA meeting and accused Kejriwal of failing to consult his party members before making baseless claims.
“My advice to him is to stop spreading lies on this issue immediately. If he continues, DDA will be compelled to take action,” Saxena added.
Kejriwal’s Visit to Shakur Basti
On Sunday, Kejriwal visited Shakur Basti and accused the BJP of “tendering” the land for redevelopment. He claimed that LG Saxena had “changed the rules,” citing the DDA meeting of December 27.
Conclusion
The clash over Shakur Basti highlights the growing political tension ahead of the Delhi elections. While the BJP and LG Saxena maintain that no land use changes or eviction notices have been made, Kejriwal’s allegations have stirred controversy. The public awaits further developments as the debate continues.
