Maha Kumbh 2025 Begins In Prayagraj With Massive Security, Devotees Flock For Holy Dip

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India]: The much-anticipated Maha Kumbh 2025 commenced in Prayagraj on Monday, with millions of devotees gathering at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers at Triveni Sangam to take the holy dip on the auspicious occasion of Paush Purnima.

Security and Arrangements

The Uttar Pradesh Police, in collaboration with paramilitary forces, has deployed over 10,000 personnel to ensure the safety of devotees and smooth operations during the event. Mounted police on horseback patrolled the grounds, utilizing five specially trained American Warmblood horses valued at ₹1.5 crore, known for their ability to sense danger from a distance and react swiftly.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna shared that the arrangements for crowd management, traffic regulation, and parking were functioning effectively. Speaking to ANI, he said, “We estimate approximately 50 lakh people have already taken the holy dip. The official figures will be released soon. Our arrangements, including parking capacity and traffic diversion, are working fine. Both state and central forces are fully prepared to tackle any situation.”

Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Bhanu Bhaskar emphasized that the administration has been alert since 3 am, with all officers actively monitoring the situation at bathing ghats. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajesh Dwivedi added, “Devotees are arriving in large numbers, and the ghats are fully occupied. The first day of Maha Kumbh is proceeding peacefully.”

Spiritual Significance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the commencement of Maha Kumbh 2025, calling it a “sacred confluence of faith, devotion, and culture.” In a post on X, he wrote, “A very special day for crores of people who cherish Bharatiya values and culture. Maha Kumbh embodies India’s timeless spiritual heritage and celebrates faith and harmony.”

PM Modi also expressed his delight at the vibrant atmosphere in Prayagraj, wishing pilgrims and tourists a memorable experience. He added, “The Maha Kumbh will bring new energy and enthusiasm into the lives of all.”

Rare Celestial Alignment

This year’s Maha Kumbh holds special significance due to a rare celestial alignment that occurs only once in 144 years. The first major Shahi Snan, or Amrit Snan, is scheduled for Tuesday on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

Devotees and Global Participation

The event has drawn devotees from across the globe, with many expressing their joy at being part of the spiritual gathering. The Maha Kumbh is not only the largest human congregation in the world but also a celebration of India’s spiritual and cultural legacy.
