Unique Rail Coach Restaurant Opens at Prayagraj Junction Ahead of Maha Kumbh 2025

Set in an unused train coach, the restaurant offers a vegetarian menu, cosy ambience, and a new attraction for locals and visitors.

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), January 12: A unique rail coach restaurant, housed in a refurbished railway coach, has become a major attraction near platform number six at the Civil Lines side of Prayagraj Junction.

Launched as part of a railway initiative to create engaging spaces for the public, the restaurant aims to offer passengers and visitors a memorable dining experience. The project, timed with the preparations for Maha Kumbh 2025, has transformed an unused coach into a vibrant dining space.

Vegetarian Menu and Cosy Ambience

Rishab Yadav, the restaurant owner, explained that the space was designed to provide a hygienic and fully vegetarian dining option.

“The railways recently launched a plan to reuse old rail coaches for restaurants. Considering Maha Kumbh 2025, we created this space, and it has quickly become a popular selfie point for visitors,” said Yadav.

Customers have praised the restaurant’s cleanliness and ambience. Muskan, a diner, said, “The ambience here is very cosy, and the food is hygienic. It’s a great place to relax.”

Another patron lauded the initiative, noting the lack of nearby dining options. “Eating here feels like sitting in a train. It’s a wonderful place to bring family,” he added.

Enhanced Security for Maha Kumbh 2025

As the Maha Kumbh approaches, security measures in Prayagraj have been strengthened. Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar highlighted the deployment of over 1,000 police personnel, including 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, and 645 constables, at 102 checkpoints across seven routes leading to Prayagraj.

“In compliance with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s instructions, circular security has been implemented to ensure the safety of devotees,” said Kumar.

Maha Kumbh 2025 Overview

Held every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh is expected to draw over 45 crore devotees. The festival will culminate on February 26, with major bathing rituals (Shahi Snan) taking place on:

  • January 14 (Makar Sankranti)
  • January 29 (Mauni Amavasya)
  • February 3 (Basant Panchami)

Devotees gather at the Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, to take holy dips believed to cleanse sins and grant liberation.

With new attractions like the rail coach restaurant and robust security arrangements, Prayagraj is gearing up to welcome millions to this grand religious gathering.
