New Delhi [India], January 10: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal has raised alarms about alleged attempts by the BJP to influence voters ahead of the upcoming Delhi elections by distributing money and goods.
In a post on X, Kejriwal accused the BJP of engaging in voter bribery. “Just yesterday, we complained to the Election Commission about the open distribution of money, job registrations, and spectacles. Today, they’ve begun openly distributing bedsheets,” Kejriwal wrote.
He also questioned the Election Commission’s response, asking, “Will the Election Commission dare to take action, or is it helpless in front of BJP?”
Meanwhile, BJP workers organized a ‘Purvanchal Samman March’ from Ashoka Road to Kejriwal’s residence on Friday, protesting the Delhi CM’s alleged comments about people from Purvanchal. The Delhi Police used water cannons to disperse protesters who tried to breach barricades near Kejriwal’s home on Feroze Shah Road and detained several BJP workers.
The BJP accused Kejriwal of disrespecting people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. “Arvind Kejriwal and AAP have a history of disrespecting the people from UP, Bihar, and Jharkhand,” BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said. “How dare Kejriwal call people from these states ‘fake’? The people of Purvanchal will take revenge on February 5.”
The controversy stems from Kejriwal’s remarks about “fake voter ID cards” allegedly issued to people from these states in Delhi. Responding to these allegations, AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj asked, “Where was Manoj Tiwari when JP Nadda called Purvanchalis ‘infiltrators’? Where was the Purvanchal Morcha?”
He also pointed out that BJP’s actions were aimed at cutting the votes of Purvanchalis who support AAP in the capital.
The dispute intensified after an AAP delegation led by Kejriwal met the Election Commission to raise concerns over alleged voter irregularities in the New Delhi constituency.
