Thousands Gather At Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple For Vaikuntha Ekadashi Celebrations

Trichy (Tamil Nadu) [India]: The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Trichy came alive with fervor as thousands of devotees gathered on Friday to celebrate Vaikuntha Ekadashi. The sacred ‘Paramapadha Vaasal’ (gate of heaven) was ceremoniously opened, and the revered deity, Lord Namperumal, was taken on a grand procession.

Amid the chants of “Ranga Ranga Namperumal,” the deity’s procession began early in the morning. At around 4:15 AM, Lord Namperumal emerged from the sanctum sanctorum via the Santhanu Mandapam, adorned in gem-studded armor, a parrot garland (kilimaalai), and the Pandian crown.

The deity passed through the Rajamahendiran Thirusuttru (corridor), Naazhikettan Gateway, and Kulasekaran Suttru, accompanied by thousands of devoted followers. At the Vraja Nadhi Mandapam, the procession paused briefly for the recitation of Vedic hymns.

The highlight of the event was the ceremonial opening of the Paramapatha Vaasal, also referred to as Sorgavaasal or the “seventh gate of heaven,” at 5:15 AM. Fervent chants of “Ranga Ranga” echoed through the temple as devotees witnessed the divine moment. The deity then proceeded to the Thousand Pillar Hall, where a special darshan was offered to the assembled devotees.

The Paramapada Vasal at the Perumal Temple in Tallakullam, Madurai, was also opened later in the day as part of the Vaikuntha Ekadashi observances.

Vaikuntha Ekadashi is a significant festival in the Hindu calendar, marking the day when the gates of Vaikuntha, the celestial abode of Lord Vishnu, are believed to open. Devotees fast and pray, seeking the blessings of the Lord on this auspicious occasion.

The Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, a renowned and revered landmark in South India, is celebrated for its rich traditions and grand festivals. The Vaikuntha Ekadashi festival, along with the Mohini Alankaram procession, showcases the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region.
