New Delhi [India], January 8: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal announced on Wednesday that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has pledged its support to his party ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on February 5. In a post on X, Kejriwal expressed his gratitude to West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee for her endorsement.
“TMC has announced support to AAP in Delhi elections. I am personally grateful to Mamta Didi. Thank you, Didi, for always supporting and blessing us in both good and bad times,” Kejriwal wrote.
TMC senior leader Derek O’Brien responded to the post, stating, “We have your back @AamAadmiParty.”
On Tuesday, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh stated that the people of Delhi would defeat the BJP in the upcoming elections. “We hope that AAP forms the government again, and BJP is defeated. The people of Delhi will ensure BJP’s defeat,” Ghosh said.
In another development, Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to manipulate the voter rolls in the New Delhi Assembly constituency by setting targets for its seven MPs to generate fake votes. “According to sources, the BJP has given its seven MPs a target to get fake votes in the New Delhi Legislative Assembly. Let’s see how many applications for new votes come in the next few days. Everyone should keep an eye on this. Atishi ji has sought a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner, and we hope to get a slot soon,” Kejriwal stated.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, on Tuesday, also accused the BJP of attempting to alter voter data in the New Delhi Assembly by deleting and adding thousands of voters through fraudulent means. “The BJP is depriving citizens of their right to vote. They are orchestrating a large-scale election scam in the New Delhi Assembly,” Atishi alleged, citing over 10,000 applications for adding votes and 6,167 deletions between October 29, 2024, and January 2, 2025.
The Delhi Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, followed by nomination scrutiny on January 18, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.
The Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has seen setbacks in the last two assembly elections and failed to win any seats. In contrast, AAP dominated the 2020 elections, securing 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP only won eight.
