JPC Members On Waqf Amendment Bill Pay Tribute To Former PM Manmohan Singh

New Delhi [India], December 27: Members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Amendment Bill paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 at AIIMS on Thursday.

JPC chairman and BJP MP Jagdambika Pal informed that the committee observed a moment of mourning for the former PM. “We paid tribute to him, and the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Bill observed mourning. After that, we adjourned the meeting in his honour,” Pal said.

Manmohan Singh, who passed away due to age-related medical conditions, was rushed to AIIMS Delhi after experiencing a sudden loss of consciousness at home.

Former President Ramnath Kovind also expressed his deep sorrow, calling Singh an “architect” of India’s economy. In a tribute, Kovind said, “The passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh is not just a setback for the nation but also a personal loss for me. I have known him for so long… He was an example of politeness… He was an architect of the Indian economy.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid a heartfelt tribute, describing Singh’s passing as a great loss for the nation. PM Modi reflected on Singh’s extraordinary journey, from overcoming the challenges of the partition era to shaping India’s economic reforms. He praised Singh’s legacy of integrity, humility, and intellect.

At Singh’s residence in Delhi, his mortal remains were draped with the national flag. Sources confirmed that the former PM’s last rites will be conducted with full state honours. Singh, renowned for spearheading the 1991 economic liberalisation reforms as India’s Finance Minister, will be cremated near Rajghat, where the last rites of Prime Ministers are performed.

Politicians and leaders from all walks of life have expressed their condolences over the demise of the former PM. PM Modi, on Thursday night, described Singh as one of India’s most distinguished leaders, mourning the nation’s loss.
