AAP Threatens To Remove Congress From INDIA Alliance Over Ajay Maken Issue

New Delhi [India], December 26: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its attack on Congress, accusing the party of colluding with the BJP in Delhi. AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that senior Congress leader and party treasurer, Ajay Maken, was speaking the BJP’s language and supporting its agenda.

AAP has given Congress a 24-hour ultimatum to take action against Maken, or the party will push for Congress’s expulsion from the INDIA alliance. Singh accused Maken of attempting to undermine AAP and align with the BJP, saying, “In Delhi, Congress is standing with the BJP and doing everything to benefit them in the upcoming elections. Ajay Maken is reading from the BJP’s script and has crossed the line by calling Arvind Kejriwal ‘anti-national.’ Has Maken ever made such allegations against any BJP leader?”

Singh further stated that AAP had tried to form an alliance with Congress in Haryana, but it did not work out, and they contested alone without using any derogatory language against Congress. He pointed out that, looking at Congress’s candidate list, it appeared as if it had been prepared at the BJP headquarters.

“If Congress does not act against Ajay Maken within 24 hours, we will ask the INDIA bloc parties to remove Congress from the alliance,” he added.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who joined Singh at the press conference, made several serious allegations against Congress. She claimed that AAP had credible information that the BJP was funding Congress candidates, including Sandeep Dikshit, who is contesting against Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi assembly constituency.

“Congress’s actions make it clear that the party has some arrangement with the BJP for the Delhi elections,” Atishi said. She pointed out that Maken had accused Kejriwal of being anti-national but had never leveled such accusations against any BJP leader. She also raised questions about Congress filing an FIR against her and Kejriwal while failing to take similar actions against BJP leaders.

Atishi further claimed that AAP had reliable sources indicating that BJP was funding Congress candidates’ election expenditures. “We’ve heard that Sandeep Dikshit is receiving BJP funding. If Congress thinks we are anti-national, why did they form an alliance with us during the Lok Sabha elections?” she asked.

The assembly elections in Delhi are expected in February 2025, although the Election Commission has yet to announce the dates. Congress, which held power in Delhi for 15 years, has struggled in recent elections, failing to win any seats in the last two assembly polls. In contrast, AAP secured 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 elections, while the BJP won 8.
