New Delhi [India]: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Tamil Nadu on December 27 to inaugurate newly constructed BJP offices in various districts. The Tamil Nadu BJP has been actively establishing party offices across the state, with completed offices in Tiruvannamalai, Coimbatore, and Ramanathapuram.
During the visit, Shah will stay overnight in Chennai and then travel to Tiruvannamalai, where he will personally inaugurate the district BJP office. Simultaneously, he will inaugurate offices in Coimbatore and Ramanathapuram via video conferencing.
In addition to the inaugurations, Shah will hold strategic meetings with senior BJP leaders to discuss the state’s political landscape, the ongoing organizational elections, and preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections.
BJP’s Current Position in Tamil Nadu
Despite its growing efforts, BJP’s influence in Tamil Nadu remains limited, holding only four out of the 234 Assembly seats. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, holds a significant majority with 133 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) serves as the primary opposition with 62 seats.
BJP President Annamalai’s Remarks
On December 1, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai predicted the decline of DMK’s dynastic politics in the 2026 Assembly elections. “2026 assembly polls will probably be the end of DMK and its dynastic politics,” he stated, while criticizing Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s rapid ascent in state politics.
Annamalai highlighted the promotion of Udhayanidhi Stalin from MLA to minister and now Deputy Chief Minister as evidence of DMK’s focus on dynastic politics. “Tamil Nadu politics is losing its merit. New people are not willing to enter. DMK revolves around the same set of people… Udhayanidhi’s rise is proof that DMK refuses to adopt a democratic model. The 2026 elections may mark the end of this dynastic era,” he added.
Comments on Actor Vijay’s Political Debut
Addressing speculation about actor Vijay’s potential political entry, Annamalai remarked that Tamil Nadu politics is transitioning into a new phase. “The 2026 elections will usher in a coalition era, moving away from the dominance of a single major party,” he said.
Shah’s visit comes amid these developments, underscoring the BJP’s commitment to strengthening its base in Tamil Nadu and strategizing for future electoral success.
