Filming For ‘Border 2’ Officially Begins”

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 25: Fans of the 1997 hit Border have cause for celebration as the much-anticipated sequel, Border 2, has officially begun filming. Earlier this year, Sunny Deol confirmed his return to the iconic role he portrayed in the original, and now the cameras are rolling for the continuation of this patriotic war saga.

The film’s makers shared the exciting news on social media, posting a picture from the sets with a clapboard marking the start of production. The announcement reads: “The cameras are rolling for Border 2! With Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty leading the charge, this Anurag Singh directorial, backed by cinematic legends Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, promises action, drama, and patriotism like never before. Mark your calendars: Border 2 hits theaters on Jan 23, 2026!”

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is shaping up to be a grand spectacle, boasting a star-studded cast that includes Sunny Deol reprising his legendary role, along with Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The original Border, directed by JP Dutta, was a landmark film that depicted the 1971 India-Pakistan war, introducing unforgettable characters such as Suniel Shetty’s portrayal of BSF officer Bhairav Singh.

One of the most significant moments in the sequel’s development is the casting of Ahan Shetty, who steps into the shoes of his father, Suniel Shetty, from the original film. In an emotional Instagram post, Ahan shared his deep connection with the Border franchise. “Border is more than a film—it’s a legacy, an emotion, and a dream come true,” he wrote. Reflecting on his unique bond with the film, Ahan added, “It’s ironic how life works—my journey with Border started 29 years ago when mom visited dad on set while pregnant with me. I grew up hearing OP Dutta’s legendary stories, holding JP uncle’s hand, and sitting by @nidhiduttaofficial side. I never realized how much those moments would shape my love for cinema and the Indian Armed Forces.”

Ahan expressed his gratitude to the filmmakers, saying, “Now, being part of Border 2 is an absolute honor. JP uncle, thank you for continuing to hold my hand, I hope to make you very, very proud.”

The passing of the torch from father to son has been beautifully captured in a montage video shared by the makers, showcasing iconic images from the original Border, with Ahan’s heartfelt voiceover.

In addition to Ahan Shetty and Sunny Deol, Border 2 will feature Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh in prominent roles. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, with Anurag Singh directing. Fans can look forward to a high-octane mix of action, gripping drama, and a strong sense of patriotism in this much-awaited sequel, which is slated to release on January 23, 2026.
