BJP Criticizes Kejriwal Government As Delhi’s AQI Crosses 500, Pollution Levels Surge In Yamuna

New Delhi [India], December 23: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released an ‘Aarop Patra’ (charge sheet) targeting Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi. BJP leaders, including MP Anurag Thakur and Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva, were present during the event.

In his address, Anurag Thakur accused the AAP government of failing to deliver on several key promises. “These are the same people who brought Anna Hazare forward, led movements against Congress’s corruption, and then set new standards of corruption themselves,” Thakur said. He went on to highlight unfulfilled promises such as making Delhi’s schools world-class, providing 24/7 clean and free water, and establishing free clinics and large hospitals. Thakur claimed that over 200,000 students are still deprived of education, thousands of families are forced to buy water from tankers, and 70 percent of patients are still seeking treatment at private hospitals.

Thakur also pointed to Delhi’s hazardous air quality, with the AQI often crossing 500. “The AQI level once crossed 1200 and remains above 500,” he said. “They promised to make Delhi corruption-free, but eight ministers, one MP, and 15 MLAs from their party have already been to jail.”

Turning his focus to the pollution of the Yamuna River, Thakur criticized the Kejriwal government for failing to clean the river. “People from Purvanchal used to celebrate Chhath Puja with devotion on the Yamuna’s banks, but due to the pollution, the festival can no longer be celebrated properly,” he said. He further questioned why, after ten years, the Yamuna remained polluted. “Delhi’s AQI is over 500, the Yamuna is heavily polluted—thank you, Kejriwal government,” Thakur added, accusing the government of denying basic water access to citizens.

Thakur called on Kejriwal to take responsibility for the pollution and corruption in the city. “If the Yamuna is not cleaned by 2025, we will hold him accountable,” Thakur declared. He also accused the Kejriwal government of numerous scams, including in areas like water supply, classrooms, Mohalla Clinics, and the liquor industry. “What kind of government is this? Kejriwal is a friend of the corrupt and a criminal of Delhi. We will not forgive him, but we will clean up the mess he has made,” Thakur said.

In his closing remarks, Thakur emphasized that the Kejriwal government had been plagued by corruption, citing the fact that the health minister, deputy CM, and CM had all faced jail time. “This is not a government for the people but a government for the jail,” he added.

AAP won 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, while the BJP secured just eight. Delhi’s next Assembly elections are anticipated in early 2025.
