Washington [US], December 22: Actor and producer Ralph Fiennes, widely known for portraying the dark lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter series, recently reflected on his career, including his experience working on the 2002 romantic comedy Maid in Manhattan. In an interview, Fiennes discussed his uncertainties during that time, particularly when portraying Republican senator Christopher Marshall opposite Jennifer Lopez.
Fiennes admitted that while the film’s tone was light and comedic, he sometimes felt lost in the role, citing his unfamiliarity with American politics at the time. “It was rom-com writing. It was light,” he said, adding that he often felt uncertain about his character and his understanding of the American political landscape.
The actor also shared heartfelt memories of his late co-star Natasha Richardson, who tragically passed away in 2009. Fiennes recalled their friendship fondly, describing her as a kind, generous person and a brilliant actress. He spoke about her tragic passing, which deeply affected him and their circle of friends, including her husband Liam Neeson. Fiennes described his relationship with Neeson as “brother-like,” highlighting their deep bond from working together on Schindler’s List.
Fiennes also discussed his current project, The Return, where he plays Odysseus alongside Juliette Binoche. The film is now showing in theaters.
In this candid interview, Fiennes reflected on both the challenges and friendships that have shaped his remarkable career.
