Washington [USA]: Jared Leto has been confirmed to play the iconic villain Skeletor in the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe, as reported by Variety. Skeletor, known as the arch-enemy of He-Man, will be a central character in this upcoming film, based on Mattel’s beloved toy line which inspired the classic animated TV series (1983-1985) and the 1987 movie.
Directed by Travis Knight, known for his work on Bumblebee, the film will feature a star-studded cast. In addition to Leto’s Skeletor, Sam C. Wilson will portray Trap Jaw, Kojo Attah will play Tri-Klops, and Hafthor Bjornsson (famously known as “The Mountain” from Game of Thrones) will take on the role of Goat Man.
Previously announced cast members include Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s lieutenant; Camila Mendes as Teela, He-Man’s trusted companion; and Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms, Teela’s father.
Leto’s casting continues his trend of portraying compelling, nerve-wracking villains in high-profile films. The Oscar-winning actor is known for his role as the Joker in Suicide Squad (2016), the evil CEO in Blade Runner 2049 (2017), and the living vampire in Morbius (2022).
Upcoming Projects: Tron: Ares and Assassination
Aside from Masters of the Universe, Jared Leto is also preparing for his next role in Disney’s Tron: Ares, where he will co-star with Greta Lee and Evan Peters. Additionally, Leto is in final negotiations to join the cast of Assassination, a thriller directed by Barry Levinson about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The film, which is already attracting major stars such as Al Pacino, Jessica Chastain, Brendan Fraser, and Bryan Cranston, centers around investigative reporter Dorothy Kilgallen’s pursuit of the truth behind JFK’s assassination.
In Assassination, Leto will join Chastain, who plays Kilgallen, as she investigates whether Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, uncovering dangerous secrets hidden by powerful forces like the CIA, FBI, and mafia.
