Ernakulam (Kerala) [India]: Kerala Leader of Opposition and Congress leader VD Satheesan on Saturday criticized the BJP-led central government for allegedly “fabricating” a case against Rahul Gandhi in connection with a scuffle on Parliament premises. He accused the ruling party of misusing its power to target the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
“This is a fabricated case. Everyone knows we fought for justice and Babasaheb Ambedkar. The Home Minister of India has mistreated Babasaheb Ambedkar. We demand an apology and a resignation from the Home Minister,” Satheesan told ANI.
He emphasized Congress’s commitment to resisting what he called an abuse of power. “They are framing Rahul Gandhi through this case, and we will fight against it,” he added.
Case Transferred to Crime Branch
The case, now under the Crime Branch’s jurisdiction, was filed at the Parliament Street police station following a complaint by BJP MP Hemang Joshi from Vadodara. The complaint accused Rahul Gandhi of “physical assault and incitement” during a scuffle in which BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput reportedly sustained injuries.
Congress Plans Nationwide Protests
In response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s controversial remarks on B.R. Ambedkar, Congress announced nationwide protests on December 24. The protests will include a “Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman March” in every district, starting with garlanding Ambedkar’s statues and culminating in submitting memoranda to district magistrates.
Additionally, Congress MPs and Central Working Committee (CWC) members will hold press conferences across the country on December 22 and 23 to address the issue.
Shah’s Controversial Remarks in Parliament
During the recently concluded winter session of Parliament, Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Congress, saying, “If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar, then they would have got heaven for seven lives.”
The remarks have sparked outrage among the Congress party and the INDIA bloc, prompting multiple protests and demands for an apology from Shah.
Conclusion
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal has instructed all party leaders to actively participate in the protests and press conferences. As tensions rise, Congress aims to rally its supporters nationwide to counter what it perceives as targeted attacks on its leaders and ideology.
