The death toll from a devastating collision involving a chemical-laden truck, an LPG tanker, and other vehicles on Bhankrota Ajmer Road in Jaipur has risen to 14, as confirmed by DCP West Jaipur, Amit Kumar.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, resulted in a massive fire engulfing nearly two dozen vehicles. The accident has left several others injured, with many suffering severe burns.
Initial Reports and Casualties
Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, Principal of SMS Medical College, reported earlier that 13 fatalities had been confirmed. The toll was later revised to 14, with additional injured individuals receiving treatment.
Dr. Sushil Kumar Bhati, Superintendent of SMS Hospital, revealed that 28 patients were admitted, six of whom are on ventilators. Over 60% of the victims sustained burn injuries, and the hospital is working tirelessly to provide medical assistance.
Government Response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident on Jaipur-Ajmer highway in Rajasthan. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.”
The Prime Minister announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
