New Delhi [India], December 20: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited BJP MP Pratap Sarangi at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in the national capital on Friday. Sarangi was one of the two BJP MPs injured during a scuffle between the NDA and INDIA bloc members on the Parliament premises on December 19.
Speaking to the media after meeting the injured MP, Chouhan accused the Congress party of having a history of undermining democracy. “It is in Congress’s DNA to insult democracy… In 1975, Indira Gandhi strangled democracy, and today Rahul Gandhi continues that legacy,” he said. “These people, full of arrogance, do not respect anyone. The people of India will never tolerate such insults to democracy and Parliament… Rahul Gandhi is unfit for the position of Leader of the Opposition,” Chouhan added.
The incident occurred when both NDA and INDIA bloc MPs staged protests on the Parliament grounds, which escalated into a scuffle. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that he was injured when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pushed another MP, causing that MP to fall on him. Sarangi, who was standing near the stairs, suffered a head injury and was rushed to the hospital.
Both injured MPs, Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were admitted to RML Hospital, where authorities confirmed on Friday that both are stable. Dr. Ajay Shukla, the Medical Superintendent of RML, provided an update on their condition, stating that their blood pressure is stable and both are in the ICU. “The CT scan and MRI reports for both are normal,” Dr. Shukla said.
Meanwhile, BJP MP CP Joshi condemned the protests by Congress and its allies in Parliament, calling the incident an “insult to democracy” and a “very unfortunate” occurrence. “The Congress party and its leaders have always tried to undermine the Constitution and democracy of this country. Yesterday’s incident shows that when Home Minister Amit Shah exposed their true intentions, it angered them, and they orchestrated this incident. The people of India will never tolerate such hooliganism,” Joshi remarked.
BJP MP K Sudhakar also expressed strong disapproval, referring to the clash in Parliament as a “black day” and condemning Rahul Gandhi’s actions as “unwarranted.”
