Mumbai: After his success with Sacred Games and CTRL, director Vikramaditya Motwane is preparing to take audiences into the harsh realities of India’s most infamous prison with his new web series, Black Warrant. Netflix released the teaser for the prison drama on Thursday, and the gripping visuals promise a raw and intense look at life inside Tihar Jail.
The series stars Zahan Kapoor, marking his debut in the world of web series, as a newly appointed jailer who struggles to adapt to the harsh prison environment. The teaser shows Zahan trying to survive and navigate the brutal realities of prison life, with his colleagues urging him to toughen up. Rahul Bhatt plays an authoritative cop, adding to the tense atmosphere.
Black Warrant is inspired by true events and based on the book Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by Sunil Gupta, a former superintendent of Tihar Jail, and journalist-author Sunetra Choudhury. The series also stars Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur, and Sidhant Gupta in key roles.
The show is co-directed by Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, with co-directors Ambiecka Pandit, Arkesh Ajay, and Rohin Raveendran Nair. Presented by Applause Entertainment in collaboration with Andolan Production and Confluence Media, Black Warrant is set to premiere on Netflix on January 10, 2025.
Motwane’s recent project, the cyber-thriller CTRL, was also praised for its gripping narrative and performances, starring Ananya Panday and Vihaan Samat.
