Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India]: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu facilitated the adoption of a child under the state’s welfare initiative on Tuesday. The event took place at Shishu Grih Tutikandi, Shimla, where the CM handed over the adoption of “Aryan” (a pseudonym) to his new adoptive mother, extending heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for the child’s future.
Encouraging Adoption and Welfare
The Chief Minister urged affluent individuals to adopt children from Shishu Grihs and orphanages, emphasizing the state’s commitment to the welfare of underprivileged children. He stated:
“The government acts as both mother and father to over 4,000 ‘Children of the State,’ ensuring their education and other essential needs to prepare them for future challenges.”
Welfare Schemes Highlighted
CM Sukhu underscored the significance of the Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Aashray Yojana, which supports vulnerable children.
- 49 Bal-Balika Ashrams are currently functioning across Himachal Pradesh under the scheme.
- Himachal Pradesh is the first state in India to enact dedicated legislation for the welfare of such children.
Additionally, the Sukh-Aashray Kosh has been established to provide financial assistance for education and other developmental needs.
Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana
The Chief Minister also highlighted the Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana, aimed at improving the education, health, and nutrition of children aged 0-27 years from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those with widowed, abandoned, divorced, or disabled parents.
Call to Action
The Chief Minister appealed to the public, especially affluent members of society, to step forward in supporting and adopting children from orphanages, ensuring they have a nurturing and prosperous future.
