New Delhi (India), December 15 : In a sharp response to Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri over the Rohingya issue, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi accused him of inconsistency, suggesting that he was either lying previously or is misleading the public now.
Atishi, addressing the media, reiterated her claim that the central government was solely responsible for the settlement of Rohingyas in various parts of Delhi. “Either he was lying earlier, or he is lying now,” she said. “The Rohingyas who have settled in Delhi did so because the Central government allowed them to enter India illegally. They crossed six states to reach Delhi, where the central government provided them with housing and officially facilitated their settlement. If there are reports of illegal activities or resource strain linked to these migrants, the responsibility rests entirely with the BJP-led central government.”
Earlier, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and CM Atishi of spreading “false narratives, diversion, and half-truths” about the rehabilitation of Rohingyas in Delhi. Puri had posted a tweet claiming that the facts about illegal Rohingya migrants had been clarified immediately, accusing the AAP of selectively ignoring them.
In his tweet, Puri asserted, “No Rohingya migrant has been provided with government housing in Delhi,” and alleged, “It is the AAP government that is facilitating the settlement of illegal Rohingyas, providing them with electricity, water, and even paying them Rs 10,000.”
In response, Atishi wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing the central government of settling a “large number” of “illegal Rohingya migrants” in Delhi without consulting the state government. She referenced earlier posts by Puri to suggest that the issue had been ongoing for several years. Atishi demanded that the Union government provide the Delhi government with a full list of Rohingyas and their addresses and insisted that no further rehabilitation of Rohingyas in Delhi take place without the consultation of the Delhi government and its residents.
