New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress-led UPA government for the 2012 power outage, the largest in India’s history, while emphasizing his government’s achievements in ensuring uninterrupted power supply under the One Nation, One Grid initiative.
Speaking in Lok Sabha during the debate on the ‘Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India,’ PM Modi highlighted how his administration prioritized unity and development across sectors, reflecting the vision of the Constitution.
Criticism of the UPA Government
The Prime Minister recalled the infamous power grid collapse in 2012, which affected millions of people and made global headlines.
“During the previous government, India was defamed worldwide due to such incidents. There was power in one part of the country, but the other parts were in complete darkness. We have seen those days,” he said.
He added that his government’s efforts ensured reliable power distribution across India. “With the mantra of unity and upholding the sense of the Constitution, we fulfilled One Nation, One Grid. Today, there is uninterrupted power supply in all corners of India,” PM Modi asserted.
Digital India’s Success Story
Highlighting the transformative impact of technology, the Prime Minister said that the Digital India initiative has democratized technology, bridging the gap between the haves and have-nots.
“The era has changed. We no longer want a ‘haves and have-nots’ situation in the digital sector. The success of Digital India is because we worked to democratize technology,” he explained.
Celebrating 75 Years of the Constitution
PM Modi reiterated that India’s journey under the Constitution is an extraordinary achievement, defying doubts cast at the time of independence.
“The Constitution has brought us here by defeating the doubts raised during independence. I bow to the crores of Indians who embraced and lived this democratic system. Citizens of India deserve all the praise,” he said.
A Moment of Global Pride
Calling the 75-year milestone a moment of pride for democracy, PM Modi said it is significant not just for India but for democracy-loving citizens worldwide.
The two-day debate in Lok Sabha on this historic occasion, which began on Friday, reflects on India’s constitutional journey and the nation’s achievements in various domains.
