New Delhi [India]: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s identity as the Mother of Democracy while addressing the Lok Sabha during a discussion on the ‘Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India.’
The Prime Minister highlighted the foresight of the Constitution makers, who rooted India’s democracy in its ancient heritage and traditions rather than confining it to events of 1947 or 1950.
Acknowledging India’s Democratic Heritage
PM Modi remarked, “India’s democracy and its republican past have been prosperous and inspiring. This is why today, India is known as the Mother of Democracy. We are not just a large democracy but also the origin of democratic principles.”
He praised the Constitution’s early adoption of inclusive rights, such as granting women the right to vote from the very beginning—a right that many nations delayed for decades.
Celebrating 75 Years of the Constitution
Reflecting on the Constitution’s significance, PM Modi stated, “The 75-year journey of India’s Constitution is a remarkable milestone, symbolizing the vision of our Constitution makers and our resolve to progress as a nation. It is extraordinary that our Constitution has guided us through challenges, defying doubts expressed at independence.”
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to all Members of Parliament who participated in the debate and emphasized that the Constitution is not just a document but a testament to the aspirations and contributions of the people of India.
A Tribute to the People of India
Highlighting the role of Indian citizens in upholding democracy, he said, “For this achievement, besides the drafters of the Constitution, I bow before the crores of Indians who have embraced this democratic system and lived it. Citizens of India deserve all the praise.”
Global Inspiration
PM Modi declared that the 75-year journey of the Indian Constitution is a moment of pride, not just for the nation but for democracy-loving people worldwide.
The two-day debate on this historic milestone began in Lok Sabha on Friday, bringing together leaders to reflect on India’s democratic journey and the enduring legacy of its Constitution.
