Washington [USA], December 13 : The beloved early-2000s sitcom Malcolm in the Middle is making a comeback with new episodes on Disney+, marking its 25th anniversary. The revival will feature a limited, four-episode run with original cast members Frankie Muniz, Jane Kaczmarek, and Bryan Cranston returning as Malcolm, and his parents Hal and Lois, respectively.
Malcolm in the Middle creator Linwood Boomer will write the new episodes, while Ken Kwapis will direct all four. The series will also include other familiar faces from the original show, which follows the life of teenage genius Malcolm (Muniz) and his chaotic family. The new episodes center around Malcolm and his daughter as they join Hal and Lois in celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, which pulls them back into the family’s familiar turmoil.
Originally a single-camera comedy, Malcolm in the Middle helped pave the way for other hit sitcoms such as Arrested Development, The Office, 30 Rock, and Modern Family. The show debuted in January 2000 with an impressive 23 million viewers, eventually reaching 26 million by the second week. Over its seven-season run, the series earned seven Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and even a Grammy.
