Moscow [Russia]: The Kremlin has expressed approval of US President-elect Donald Trump’s criticism of the Biden administration’s decision to allow Ukraine to use US-made long-range missiles for strikes deep into Russian territory. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement on Friday.
“The statement in itself is fully in harmony with our position. That is, our visions of reasons behind the escalation coincide. And, of course, we like that,” Peskov said, as quoted by state agency TASS.
Trump recently described the Biden administration’s authorization as “crazy,” emphasizing his disapproval of the policy.
However, Peskov urged caution regarding predictions of Trump’s future actions as president. “Time will tell. Let’s wait for the moment when the President-Elect takes his seat in the Oval Office,” he added.
This development follows the Biden administration’s controversial decision to authorize Ukraine to use long-range weapons to strike within Russian borders. This led to missile strikes on Russian military facilities in the Kursk and Bryansk regions, reportedly carried out using American and British weaponry.
In retaliation, Russia launched its latest Oreshnik hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile at Ukraine’s Yuzhmash defense industry facility in Dnepr (formerly Dnepropetrovsk). Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the West’s provocative policies could lead to severe consequences if the conflict escalates further, TASS reported.
The Kremlin condemned the authorization of such strikes as a significant “escalation” and cited it as evidence of the United States’ direct involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Meanwhile, Washington has criticized Russia for its alleged recruitment of North Korean troops to support its war effort.
Amid the ongoing hostilities, the US Department of Defense (DoD) announced on Thursday a new Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package worth USD 500 million. The package includes air defense systems, munitions for rocket and artillery systems, and anti-tank weapons, the Pentagon stated.
