Nancy Pelosi Hospitalized After Injury During Official Visit To Luxembourg

Washington, DC [US]: Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized after sustaining an injury during an official visit to Luxembourg, her spokesperson announced on Friday.

Pelosi was traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a pivotal World War II event that began with a German offensive and concluded with an Allied victory.

“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” her spokesperson, Ian Krager, said in a statement.

Pelosi is currently receiving medical treatment and expressed regret over her inability to participate in the remaining scheduled events.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals. She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history,” the spokesperson added.

The former House Speaker extended her gratitude to American veterans and acknowledged the contributions of the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne during World War II.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe,” the statement read.

Pelosi also reflected on her personal connection to World War II, noting that her uncle, Johnny, was among the servicemembers who fought in the conflict.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi was personally and officially honored to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in World War II — including her uncle, Johnny. She looks forward to returning home to the US soon,” the statement added.

Nancy Pelosi, who served as the 52nd Speaker of the House of Representatives, made history in 2007 as the first woman to hold the position. She also became the first person in over six decades to regain the role when she was reelected as Speaker in 2019. Pelosi led House Democrats for 20 years.
