Election Commission Reviews Poll Preparations for 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections

New Delhi [India]: The Election Commission of India (ECI) held a comprehensive meeting on Thursday to review preparations for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for early 2025.

In a post on X, the ECI announced that it had conducted a review with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, the District Election Officer (DEO), the Returning Officer (RO), the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and other nodal officials. The discussion focused on the progress of the ongoing Special Summary Revision 2025 and the overall poll preparedness for the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which secured a landslide victory in the 2020 elections with 62 out of 70 seats, has already released two lists of candidates for the upcoming polls. In its latest announcement, the party named 20 candidates, following a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting chaired by party convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

In a notable move, the AAP shifted former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s constituency from Patparganj to Jangpura. Awadh Ojha has been announced as the candidate for the Patparganj seat.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal led an AAP delegation to the Election Commission on Wednesday, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a “mass voter deletion” conspiracy in Delhi. Addressing the media after the meeting, Kejriwal claimed that they had presented 3,000 pages of evidence to the Election Commission, alleging that the BJP was working to remove legitimate voters from the electoral rolls.

In response, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva dismissed the allegations, accusing the AAP of making “false promises” in both Punjab and Delhi, particularly regarding financial support for women. He asserted that the public now trusts only “Modi Ki Guarantee,” highlighting that the BJP has been delivering financial assistance to women in states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Odisha, and Maharashtra.

As the elections approach, the political landscape in Delhi is heating up, with both AAP and BJP gearing up for a fierce contest.
