Kapil Sibal Criticizes BJP Over No-Confidence Motion Against RS Chairman, Calls It ‘Purely Political

New Delhi [India], December 11: Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Wednesday accused the ruling BJP of politicizing the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha, amid the Opposition’s no-confidence motion against the Rajya Sabha Chairman.

Speaking to ANI, Sibal said, “What is unfolding in the House is purely politics. We don’t need to focus on what one party says about another. We only need to observe the proceedings. The actions in the House are driven by politics. The people of India should be aware of the position of the Rajya Sabha Chairman, and all they need to do is watch the proceedings of Parliament. The BJP will block the Opposition’s no-confidence motion against the Chairman, and that’s politics.”

Sibal’s remarks came after the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day amid tensions between the BJP-led central government and the Opposition over the no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The House is scheduled to reconvene on December 12.

CPI MP P Sandosh Kumar expressed support for the no-confidence motion, alleging that the Chairman was favoring the ruling party and violating democratic norms. “It’s not about majority or minority. We were compelled to submit this resolution because the Chairman has been consistently aiding the ruling party while ignoring the Opposition’s rights,” he said.

Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan also criticized the Chairman’s actions, stating that the no-confidence motion was a result of his partisan behavior. “This will be the first time in history that such a motion is being moved against the Chairman. The government is obstructing the proceedings to avoid debate on critical issues. They are trying to disrupt the House so that the Opposition does not have a chance to raise their concerns,” she added.

The Opposition INDIA bloc, led by Congress, filed the no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday, calling for a discussion on the Adani issue, and held protests on Parliament grounds.

The winter session of Parliament, which began on November 25, has been marked by frequent disruptions, and is scheduled to conclude on December 20.
