December 11, 2024: Veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu has been booked for allegedly assaulting a journalist at his residence in Jalpalli, Rangareddy district, on the evening of December 10, 2024. The incident reportedly occurred around 7:50 pm when the journalist, along with other media personnel, was covering a dispute between Mohan Babu and his son, actor Manchu Manoj.
According to the police FIR, a formal complaint was filed by the journalist at 10:55 pm on the same day. The complaint was recorded by Sub-Inspector B. Dayakar Reddy at the Pahadishareef Police Station. The journalist stated that he, along with other media representatives, had arrived at Mohan Babu’s residence earlier in the evening to cover the ongoing family dispute, which had attracted significant media attention.
The complainant mentioned that he and other journalists were invited inside the house by Manchu Manoj at around 8:05 pm, with the aim of covering the escalating situation between the father and son. However, during the coverage, Mohan Babu allegedly confronted the journalist in an aggressive manner.
The actor is accused of forcibly grabbing the journalist’s microphone and cellphone, using abusive language, and physically assaulting the journalist with the microphone, which reportedly contained a steel pipe and metal logo. The attack caused a severe head injury to the journalist, leading to significant bleeding.
The complainant stated that the assault occurred without provocation. As a result, the journalist was taken to Trident Hospital in Shamshabad for medical treatment. Following the incident, the journalist requested that appropriate legal action be taken against Mohan Babu.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the actor, and the investigation has been assigned to Sub-Inspector V. Laxmaiah. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and protection of journalists, especially when covering sensitive matters involving public figures.
