BJP Leaders Slam AAP Over ‘Sheesh Mahal’ as Nation Struggled During Covid-19 Crisis
New Delhi [India], December 10 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat on Tuesday criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership, accusing them of building a lavish ‘Sheesh Mahal’ while the nation was grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sehrawat said, “AAP leaders should be ashamed that, while the country was in the middle of the Covid crisis, they were constructing a ‘Sheesh Mahal’. Rs 42 crore of Delhi’s taxpayers’ money was spent on the interiors of that house. Arvind Kejriwal has deceived the people of Delhi with this enormous waste.”
BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also slammed the AAP government, stating, “On one hand, Delhiites are struggling with basic issues like access to clean drinking water, while on the other, Arvind Kejriwal’s royal bath cost Rs 4 crore. It’s clear now why he didn’t want the media inside his residence and why Atishi Marlena was using various methods to secure the keys to the ‘Sheesh Mahal.’ Corruption seems to have played a role in these extravagant expenses.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva shared a video of Kejriwal’s residence, calling it a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ and denouncing it as a “museum of corruption” rather than a Chief Minister’s home. “This is the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ that Kejriwal tried to hide from the people of Delhi. We’ve shown the first video of it – with its luxury bathroom, gym, granite finishes, sauna, and Jacuzzi baths, it resembles a 7-star resort. Kejriwal, who claims to be a common man, must explain why he hid the keys and the true cost of his lavish residence,” Sachdeva said, challenging the Delhi CM to open the doors to the public.
The BJP had previously protested against Kejriwal’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’ last year, accusing AAP of using funds allocated for Covid relief for the renovation of the official residence. The BJP has alleged that approximately Rs 45 crore was spent on the renovation of Kejriwal’s residence at 6, Flagstaff Road in the Civil Lines area of Delhi.
