BSP Chief Mayawati Accuses SP And Congress Of Attempting To Please Muslim Voters”

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 7: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday criticized the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress for failing to address national and public issues in Parliament. She accused both parties of attempting to appease Muslim voters by using the violence in Sambhal as a pretext.

“In Parliament, the opposition is not raising the issues of the country or the public. For their own political gains, especially the SP and Congress, are trying to appease Muslim voters under the guise of the violence in Sambhal. They are indifferent to other pressing matters,” Mayawati said during a press conference.

She further alleged that these parties were inciting divisions within the Muslim community in Sambhal, warning that the community must remain cautious.

Earlier, Mayawati condemned the stone-pelting incident on a survey team in Sambhal, holding the Uttar Pradesh government responsible for the violence and disorder in the district. She emphasized that the survey should have been conducted with care and in a peaceful manner, keeping the interests of both communities in mind.

Speaking to ANI, Mayawati added, “I also want to tell the UP government that after the unexpected outcomes of the recent by-elections, there was heightened tension across the Moradabad division, especially in Sambhal.”

The survey, ordered by a local court on November 19 following a petition by senior advocate Vishnu Shanker Jained, was meant to verify claims that a temple originally stood at the site of a mosque. The survey was conducted with the presence of local police and members of the mosque’s management committee.
