A shocking case of sexual assault has been reported from Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh, where a woman aged about 90 was allegedly gang-raped by four masked men, police officials said on Saturday.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday night when the elderly woman was alone in her hut located in an agricultural field in her village, about 55 kilometres from the district headquarters.
Authorities said the woman sustained injuries during the assault and is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Doctors have confirmed that she is out of danger.
Survivor Informed Daughter the Next Morning
According to police, the survivor informed her daughter about the incident the following morning. The daughter, who lives in another village, rushed to her mother and later took her to the district hospital for medical treatment.
Hospital authorities then advised the woman and her family to approach the police and register a formal complaint regarding the incident.
Case Registered Under Gang-Rape Section
Following the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 70 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with gang rape.
Manoj Rai, Superintendent of Police of Khandwa, confirmed that an investigation has been launched and multiple teams have been deployed to identify and arrest the accused.
Special Investigation Team Formed
To expedite the investigation, the police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an additional superintendent of police.
According to officials:
- Three separate police teams have been formed to track the suspects.
- Authorities have announced a reward of ₹10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the accused.
Police said efforts are ongoing to identify the four masked individuals allegedly involved in the crime.
Investigation Underway
Officials stated that investigators are gathering evidence and speaking to local residents in the area where the incident took place.
Police are also examining possible leads and reviewing information that could help identify the suspects.
The case has sparked concern in the region, with authorities assuring that every effort will be made to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
