Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 2: The people of Assam, especially in Karbi Anglong district, were filled with pride and joy as 9-year-old dance prodigy Binita Chetry returned home after achieving a historic third-place finish in the globally renowned talent show, Britain’s Got Talent.
Binita’s feat makes her the first Asian ever to secure a podium finish in the competition’s history. Upon arrival, she was greeted with flowers, applause, and admiration from family, fans, and local dignitaries.
Prem Tamang, Chairman of the Gorkha Development Council, praised the young dancer and extended his gratitude to everyone who supported her journey.
Binita’s father, Amar Chetry, proudly recounted her journey:
“She started dancing at the age of three… After participating in reality shows in Mumbai and the South, she now stands as second runner-up on an international stage. This is not only our family’s achievement—it’s a moment of pride for the entire nation.”
Binita, reflecting on her experience, said:
“It was amazing. The judges were so encouraging. Bruno Sir and Simon Sir said they had never seen a performance like mine before.”
Her journey began with basic dance lessons from her aunt, and she later appeared on Indian shows such as Super Dancer 4 and Dance Deewane Junior. Under the guidance of choreographer Hardik Rawat in Jaipur, she polished her talent further and went on to win Dance Icon Season 2, which opened doors to the international stage.
Despite her fame, Binita remains grounded, balancing dance and education as a Class 5 student.
“Sometimes it’s hard, but I manage,” she said.
Binita also extended thanks to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his encouragement and support.
“Though voting was only open in London, I got love from all over the world. I’m so grateful.”
While she hasn’t yet decided on long-term goals, her focus remains clear:
“I just want to improve my dancing and become better.”
Binita’s return is being celebrated not only as a personal milestone but as a national triumph, igniting hope and pride in young artists across India.
