New Delhi, 01 Aug: The 71st National Film Awards for the year 2023 were announced on Friday evening, celebrating the best of Indian cinema. The ceremony honored films, actors, and technicians from across the country for their outstanding contributions.
Among the major winners were Shah Rukh Khan, who was awarded Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Jawan, and Rani Mukerji, who won the Best Actress award for her role in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Vikrant Massey also shared the Best Actor honor for his acclaimed film 12th Fail, which also took home the prestigious Best Film award.
Regional cinema also shined brightly. The Telugu film HanuMan was recognized with two awards: Best Action Direction for Nandu-Prudhvi and Best Film in AVGC. The Tamil film Parking secured multiple wins, including Best Tamil Film and a Best Supporting Actor award for Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar.
Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story was honored with the Best Direction award, and Prasanthanu Mohapatra received the Best Cinematography award for the same film. Other notable wins included Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, with Vaibhavi Merchant winning Best Choreography for the song “Dindhora Baje Re.”
The awards also recognized talent in supporting roles, with Urvashi (Ullozhukku), Janki Bodiwala (Vash), Vijayaraghavan (Pookalam), and Muthupettai Somu Bhaskar (Parking) all winning Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Non-Feature Film Awards:
In the non-feature film category, Giddh The Scavenger was named Best Short Film. Other key winners included Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know for Best Script, and Piyush Thakur’s The First Film for Best Direction. The documentary God Vulture and Human won Best Documentary Film.
