New Delhi [India]: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that 71,231 new posts have been created in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles (AR) between 2020 and 2024.
In a written reply, Rai also highlighted that as of October 30, 2024, there are 100,204 vacancies in CAPFs and Assam Rifles. He detailed the distribution of vacancies across forces:
- Assam Rifles: 3,377 vacancies
- Border Security Force (BSF): 12,808 vacancies
- Central Industrial Security Force (CISF): 31,782 vacancies
- Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF): 33,730 vacancies
- Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP): 9,861 vacancies
- Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB): 8,646 vacancies
Rai attributed the vacancies to various factors, including retirements, resignations, promotions, deaths, and the creation of new posts or battalions. He emphasized that filling these vacancies is a continuous process, with efforts underway to expedite recruitments through bodies like UPSC, SSC, and the respective forces.
“The government has issued directions to all CAPFs and Assam Rifles to undertake recruitment against vacant posts in non-general duty cadres in a time-bound manner,” Rai stated.
The minister also outlined measures to streamline the recruitment process, including:
- Timely Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings: To fill promotional vacancies.
- Reduced time for medical examinations: To speed up recruitment procedures.
- Lowered cutoff marks: For constable/General Duty (GD) positions, especially in categories with significant shortfalls.
These steps aim to address the vacancies effectively and ensure that the forces are adequately staffed to handle their responsibilities.
